Functional, creative web design
Design starts from the bottom up and creating an understanding. This normally includes research into what needs to be communicated and then analysis of the best way to deliver the message. This may incorporate the history of the organisation or product, the sector or industry & the audience. Personas are normally the most effective at getting to the heart of how to deliver a message to a particular group, but focus groups are also a great resource, given time and budget.
After fully understanding the message that is needed to be communicated and gaining an insight into the target audience, wire frames can be developed. Wireframes can be developed by using influences from the research, but also keeping in mind accessibility, user experience and web standards. From the wire frames, interaction models can be built into the designed wireframes so you can start building a picture of how information and visuals will interact on the screen, with each other and importantly with the audience to deliver the message.
A graphical design can be developed and layered on top of the wire frame and interaction model. This helps introduce visual clues on how to use the site and find information, but also develops brand recognition and gives a visual appeal to visitors to retain their interest and invite them back, amongst other things.
At each of these stages a deliverable is produced that can be fed back to the project team and client for feedback and input.
I will normally receive a notification of interest in the clients preferred form (email, telephone, meeting); from there analysis of the project is carried out and a brief created. On creating a brief an invoice is also created detailing the work to be completed and the cost associated with this work. Deliverables generated in the brief are met to the deadlines discussed until the full brief has been met.
